![]() ![]() If you find a solution please share,we are still struggling with a way around this. It appears the Inventor pattern tool and sheet metal iFeatures will not work past a couple hundred instances. We left Inventor as long as four hours once and it never finished the pattern. Finally we tried sheet metal iFeatures that would automatically place our tube hole on sketch points and that didn't work either. We tried patterning these features together in a standard iFeature and that had the same limitation. That had the same unsuccessful result (even when we tried just patterning one hole feature alone). So we tried multiple extrudes with offset planes to get the expansion grooves and a chamfer feature, then pattern the lot. We tried revolved features first and gave up quickly thinking it was a more complicated feature than an extrude and that was causing the issue. ![]() We were using the pattern tool with the Optimized option turned on because we needed the pattern cut off nicely around the circular surface of the tubesheet. ![]() Truth be told, I haven't tried it in 2015 yet though. No word since and it wasn't sent in early enough to have been fixed in 2015. I logged a case with ADSK and the result was a recognized issue that support escalated to development. It hangs past a hundred or so instances in a pattern. In short we found that we cannot use the pattern tool for tubesheets with a large number of holes. Sometimes with thousands of holes in a tubesheet. We are trying to use Inventor to model Shell & Tube heat exchangers here also. We never found a solution using the pattern tool. I'm actually still dealing with some of the fallout. Jason, It's interesting reading your post because I ran into this exact issue in Inventor with tubesheet hole patterns just a month or so ago. ![]()
